I break from the usual schedule (couple of times a week if said week isn’t turning pear-shaped) to make a special announcement; as of this moment, I am in Amazon’s Top 100 horror ebook authors.
Ah, I hear you say, but haven’t you already told us that? Twice? Once on Facebook, and once on Twitter? And isn’t this blog post going to get reposted on both sites? Umm…yes.
And, I hear you say, I thought it was uncool to even care about Amazon Author Rankings. Well, as my nearest and dearest will tell you, I have never been cool, so I’m not about to start now.
No doubt you are also asking, “How did this happen?” Oh, how I wish I could take all the credit…but no, this fortuitous event came about because the most excellent “Horror For Good” anthology, in which I have one short story, had a particularly good sales run over the weekend; it was World AIDS day on Saturday, and seeing as all the profits from HFG go to amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, the publishers priced it at 99 cents for the day to mark the occasion.
This dream run won’t last; this morning I was at #68, ahead of the likes of Richard Bachman (Stephen King’s nom de plume), Guillermo del Toro and Douglas Clegg. This evening as I write this, I’m at #94, and less than an hour away from sliding back into obscurity.
Which is why I am writing this blog post. Amazon Author Rankings are updated hourly, but blog posts are forever (or as close to forever as the Internet can get). When I’m in my dotage in the nursing home, I’ll be able to call up this page and say, “Look! I was there…once.”
